Farrington, Lockwood Company Limited is a small, unique independent chemical laboratory. There are two distinct areas of activity at FLCL: a custom designed lithium battery lab with facilities to perform dangerous safety and abuse testing and a chemistry group. Farrington, Lockwood's experience includes chemical research, battery research, and testing on all types of batteries. Lithium battery safety and reliabilty is our battery specialty.
Lithium Battery Services
Consulting: Battery consultation based upon approximately 30 years experience. We have experience with all battery systems. We specialize in lithium systems. We may be able to help with design issues, compliance with regulations, or accident analysis.
Safety and Abuse Testing:
All lithium batteries are subject to
regulations that call for abusive testing that, for safety, should only
be performed by experienced personnel with specialised
equipment. FLCL
offers to conduct such tests in its purpose-built battery test
facility. We can accommodate batteries under approximately 100
Watt-hours.
Other Battery Evaluations:
FLCL can independently evaluate battery
performance. Clients may use such data to ratify manufacturers claims,
compare competitive products to power their applications, or for
lot-to-lot quality control.
Regulations require severe abusive testing of all lithium cells and
batteries. Their high energy density and flammable component materials
require special facilities to safely conduct the tests.
Farrington, Lockwood's lab is designed and custom-built to allow the
safe conduct of these tests. We have been performing safety
and abuse testing for 28 years.
Common test requirements for lithium cells and batteries include those
required in the UN's Transportation of Dangerous
Goods regulations
worldwide, airworthiness test requirements such as the FAA's TSO-C142A
(which calls up RTCA DO227) and Europe's EN4240, and general standards
such as those published by
the IEC. We do not perform UL testing on lithium batteries.
Chemistry
FLCL's chemistry group has more than 25 years experience in
helping client's characterize their products. Unlike high
throughput commercial analytical test labs, FLCL's chemistry group
customizes the tests it performs to the needs of individual
clients. The focus of the chemistry group is to provide high
quality, independent third party test results that clients can rely on
to make informed decisions about products.
Many of the
tests performed by the chemistry group are based on chromatography or
spectroscopy methods, but other types of testing can be
provided.
FLCL's laboratory has established in-house quality assurance procedures
to ensure sample traceability and to ensure all data
generated
falls within the accuracy/precision of the test methods approved for
the client's application.
FLCL chemistry related consulting and laboratory services
include:
- the development and validation of analytical test methods
- optimization of test methods for routine application
- product characterization
- support for production/process scale-up
- stability testing, trend analysis, and field life projections
- literature and product reviews
Many
of the chemistry group's current projects relate to the development and
production of decontamination technologies, as well as fielding of
products in harsh environments (e.g. military and emergency response).
